It’s Cape versus Cape in DRBA Commissioners Cup
Caper Tigers Set to Battle the Vikings on September 9

(Cape May, NJ) On Saturday, September 9, the Lower Cape May Regional Caper Tigers will host the Cape Henlopen Vikings in a 1:00 p.m. varsity football game. The winner claims the coveted DRBA Commissioners Cup. The game will take place at Lower Cape May Regional High School located at 687 on U.S. Route 9 in Lower Township, New Jersey. Game tickets are available at the football complex. The Cape Henlopen Vikings lead the cross bay series 4-1.

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is once again offering group discount ferry tickets for family and fans to get to this spirited game. For foot passengers, school buses will transport you from the Cape May Terminal to the Lower Cape May Regional High School and back to the Terminal after the game. The Vikings football team will return on the 4:30 p.m. departure, while the cheerleaders and band will return on the 6:00 p.m. departure.

“Our mission is to make it as easy as possible for Viking fans to see their team compete in this high stakes game” said Jennifer Shivers, Assistant Director of Business Operations for the Ferry. “We want the stands to be packed with friends, families and fans cheering on their teams.”

Shivers added that fans can also travel with their bikes for the same discounted price. “Lower Cape May Regional High School is a short ride from the ferry for those looking for a quick cruise on two wheels. The fan discount is valid for any departure that day.”

Separated by the Delaware Bay and a short trip aboard the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, the two coastal high schools renewed their football rivalry in 2010. The Cape schools hadn’t played each other in the regular season since the early 1980s. The host Caper Tigers beat the Vikings 25-3 in that first 2010 meeting while the Vikings answered back on September 7, 2011 winning 32-14. After a two year hiatus, the Cape Henlopen Vikings bested the Caper Tigers in 2014 to take the series lead. In 2015 and 2016 the Vikings extended their winning streak by defeating the Tigers 41-8 and 49-12 respectively.
