Sheila McCann Takes Oath of Office at Agency Meeting

New Castle, Del. - Today, the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) welcomed a new Commission member as New Jersey State Senate President Stephen Sweeney administered the Commission Oath of Office to Sheila McCann of Upper Deerfield, New Jersey prior to the bi-state agency’s monthly meeting. Commissioner McCann’s term extends to July 1, 2018. On December 18, the New Jersey State Senate confirmed her nomination.

“I am pleased and honored to be able to serve the residents of Cumberland County and the State of New Jersey as an Authority Commissioner,” McCann stated. “Given its operation of the Millville Airport, the Authority has a significant impact on the economy of Cumberland County. I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners and the Authority staff as the agency continues to provide both safe, efficient transportation services to meet our customers’ needs while, at the same time, promoting regional economic development initiatives to create employment opportunities for area residents.”

During her professional career, Sheila McCann has vast knowledge and experience in multiple vocations, including teacher, liquor store owner/manager, real estate agent, and legal secretary. For the past 20+ years, she has served as the business and system administrator for Chance & McCann, LLC, a law firm in Bridgeton, NJ. In that capacity, Sheila has numerous responsibilities, including public relations, purchasing, advertising & marketing agent, accountant, and office manager. When the firm purchases new equipment, Sheila also handles the software implementation and employee training. Manager of three rental properties, Sheila is a licensed real estate agent with Grace Realty.

“Given her experiences, talents and knowledge, Commissioner McCann is a tremendous addition to the Board,” Hogan remarked. “She wants to make a positive difference for South Jersey and will bring an important perspective to our policy discussion. We’re fortunate to have her as a member of the New Jersey delegation.”

Active in civic and community activities, Commissioner McCann currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Cumberland County Vocational Education Center & is liaison to the CCTEC Foundation Board. An advocate of the Cumberland County SPCA, Sheila has held several fundraisers to further the non-profit’s effort to help animals. She is also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as past Regent of the local chapter; a member of the NAACP who honored her as an Inspirational Mother and a member of the Research Club of Bridgeton. She has previously served as 1st VP of the Bridgeton Onized Federal Credit Union.

A graduate of Cumberland County College, Commissioner McCann earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Monmouth University. Sheila and her husband, Kevin, are the proud parents of daughters, Shanna McCann Gowen, Esq. an attorney at Chance & McCann, LLC and Dr. Kristin McCann, a veterinarian. The Commission is comprised of twelve commissioners - six each from New Jersey and Delaware - who are appointed by their respective Governor.
