9th Annual Lewes Tulip Celebration Flowers in April
Ferry Partners with Lewes Chamber of Commerce on Package for New Jersey Customers

LEWES, Del. – Celebrate winter’s hibernation and the budding of spring as more than 20,000 tulips blossom in downtown Lewes! Beginning April 6 and continuing April 15, the City of Lewes will celebrate its 9th Annual Lewes Tulip Festival, to welcome the beautiful array of vibrant, colorful beds of flowering tulips. The festival celebration also includes many themed events and entertainment for visitors and residents alike.

“Lewes in Bloom is a great way to welcome spring after a long, dreary winter,” said Jennifer Shivers, Assistant Director of Ferry Operations. “We wanted to make it easier for our New Jersey customers to experience this one-of-a-kind event so we partnered with the Lewes Chamber of Commerce to put together a special package. This package makes it easy to shake off those winter doldrums and enjoy the sights and smells of another spring.”

The ferry package, which is available on Friday, April 6; Saturday, April 7; and Saturday, April 14, includes round-trip foot passage, 45 minute guided trolley tour of tulip planting locations and Lewes’ historic landmarks with docents from Lewes in Bloom – John Hanson and Cindy DeEmedio. Participants will also be provided a raffle ticket and a “Tiptoe-to-the-Tulips” map, which details tulip planting locations as well as Lewes’ historic landmarks.

The number of tulips and other spring bulbs planted in the City’s parks and other public locations has expanded to more than 20,000. The locations of the plantings will be identified on the map produced in association with the celebration. More than 100 varieties will be on display. They were all planted by Lewes in Bloom volunteers, an organization of volunteers who promote the beautification of Lewes by planting flowerbeds and planters throughout the City and maintaining them during the entire growing season.
