Convenience and Travel Options Abound at Wilmington Airport
NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Today, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) officials joined with New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer and representatives from Avelo Airlines and The Landline Company to officially cut the ribbon on the new Parking Lot C, highlight Avelo’s ILG commercial service expansion and provide an update on American Airlines and Landline’s impressive connection service from the Wilmington Airport (ILG) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The service expansion and the new parking lot adjacent to the airport terminal building come just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
“Avelo Airlines, American Airlines, and Landline are great partners and we’re very proud of our neighborhood airport and the hometown service it provides to the local travelling community,” said DRBA Executive Director Thomas J. Cook. “We will continue to make the necessary investments to enhance our traveling customers’ experience. Wilmington Airport continues on its flightpath to be the airport of choice for people in Delaware, South Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland who seek low fares, quality service and a convenient, stress-free airport experience.”
“It’s an exciting time at ILG,” said County Executive Meyer. “From the expansion of the parking lot to the start of a direct passenger line to Philadelphia, ILG is positioning itself to be THE place to start and end your travel experience in the region.”
The terminal-adjacent Parking Lot C, includes 532 additional parking spaces, bringing ILG’s total parking capacity to 1,345 vehicles. With no rate increase, the low daily rate of $9.50 remains a bargain and guests can check online for real time availability at flyilg.com. Avelo, DRBA and Donate Delaware are also working collaboratively on a partnership to ship urgently needed supplies and essential goods to areas dealing with the catastrophic aftermath of the recent hurricanes.
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Avelo is proud to be the Philadelphia / Delaware Valley region’s airline of choice and continue growth at ILG with three new, nonstop routes to Atlanta, Charlotte / Concord and Lakeland, Florida, plus the return of three popular Florida destinations: Daytona Beach, West Palm Beach and Sarasota-Bradenton this winter. We’re also adding our second based aircraft at ILG, enabling more routes and growth opportunities. Our Customers tell us they love the convenience, affordability and reliability of flying Avelo at ILG, especially our nonstop, no layover, travel options. We appreciate the support Avelo has received from community leaders across the state and send special thanks to our awesome ILG Crewmembers who make it all happen.”
The second-based aircraft at ILG also brings additional good paying job opportunities to the local community. Starting November 7th, passengers can enjoy round trip flights between Lakeland/Orlando, FL and Daytona Beach, FL and beginning November 8th between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte/Concord, NC. With scheduled service to four new routes, Avelo now serves 13 nonstop destinations from its ILG base - the convenient, affordable and travel-friendly alternative. Nearly 450,000 customers have utilized the Wilmington Airport, either departing or arriving, since Avelo started operations on February 1, 2023.
"We are proud to partner with American Airlines to offer luxury motorcoach service between Wilmington (ILG) and Philadelphia (PHL)," says Landline Spokesperson Hannah Tamura. "It offers unparalleled convenience, allowing passengers to connect to over 100 destinations from their own backyard. This seamless experience allows Wilmington residents to take advantage of the convenient and affordable parking options at ILG, skip the stress of driving themselves, and earn AAdvantage miles while enjoying a comfortable ride to Philadelphia."
American Airlines in partnership with The Landline Company offer daily motorcoach service between Wilmington Airport (ILG) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), enhancing travel convenience for Delaware Valley passengers. This service allows travelers to check their luggage and clear TSA security at ILG before boarding a premium motorcoach, which offers amenities like leather reclining seating, free Wi-Fi, and power outlets during the trip to/from PHL's Terminal F. Operating six round trips daily, the service enables seamless connections to American Airlines’ global flights and provides itinerary protection to passengers. Passengers can book this service like a connecting flight by searching Wilmington (ILG) to their final destination on aa.com or on the American Airlines app.
Wilmington Airport is conveniently located a short drive south of Philadelphia - offering a refreshingly smooth, simple and travel-friendly alternative hometown airport experience. ILG’s adjacency to multiple major highways makes it the Delaware Valley’s most convenient and travel-friendly airport, encompassing portions of four states: Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and the northern Eastern Shore of Maryland.
